Emergency Response - 24/7
First Call’s Emergency Response Team manages emergency incidents for both public and private sector clients within the Virginia and mid-Atlantic region. Our emergency team is well trained as first responders by the Henrico County, VA Haz Mat regional program giving us the best training and team availability in Central Virginia. The team is available 24 hours a day and will be at the incident within 2 hours of notification. We can handle all levels of emergency spills or incidents, including accidents, leakage, or any other form of contamination including:
- Hazardous Material Spill
Marine Oil Spill
Depending on the assessment, we deploy a scientist to ensure that all situations are handled efficiently and within EPA and DEQ guidelines.
Remediation is the term for strategies that are used to purify and revitalize contaminated soil and groundwater. A number of different methods can be used to remediate soil contamination. Often, the selection of the most effective strategy will depend on the nature and extent of the contamination.
First Call’s staff are trained and educated in many means of remediation. Rather than just dredge and dispose of contaminated soil in a landfill, First Call focuses on other forms of remediation that will remove the contaminants and return the soil to its previous condition, thereby providing clean topsoil. The solution selected will be the most cost effective for our customers. First Call prides itself on staying on top of all new remediation technologies and providing that to their customers on a cost-effective basis.
Commercial Oil Tanks
The State of Virginia Fire Prevention Code states that residential oil tanks out of service for one year shall be removed or abandoned in place (see link at the bottom of the page for exact wording). First Call provides all the services necessary for home heating oil tank removal or abandonement. We combine dedicated personnel with health, safety, and regulatory requirements to assess the situation, remove the tank and remediate the surrounding soil. We have soil scientists and regulatory personell on call to ensure all processes and procedures are done to EPA and DEQ specifications. First Call has experience with the Virginia Petroleum Storage Tank Fund to assist those who qualify. This fund allows us to perform UST and AST projects at a minimal cost to the client.

How we’re different
Building and facility construction projects generate a significant amount of waste, both hazardous and non-hazardous. First Call’s experienced team of experts can put together a plan to help you remove the waste from your construction site and dispose of it properly within EPA and DEQ guidelines.
Waste management services include identification of unknown materials, packaging and transportation, and treatment and disposal. Our waste-management personnel perform most of our on-site hazardous waste management functions while our network of qualified, permitted suppliers provide transportation, treatment, and disposal, when permitted and regulatory requirements allow such treatment. All waste management and disposal is done according to EPA and all local, regional, and state regulations.
We’ll put together a plan for reducing waste and separating the waste materials, and then we’ll create a schedule for collection, pickup, management, and disposal. We also provide records of all transactions for assurance of meeting EPA and DEQ guidelines.
