Our June Project Spotlight shines bright on our Atlanta, GA office’s 100th Spill Cleanup! While the spill itself was smaller in scale it did deal with a hefty chemical known as Methyl Ethyl Ketone (aka MEK). MEK can easily evaporate into the air and contribute to the formation of smog – which can impact the environment greatly. It is also very flammable and gives off a strong odor. Our Crew arrived on scene and quickly donned the proper PPE. They got to work applying granular sorbents to prevent the product from spreading and to soak up the standing product. They then plugged and overpacked the damaged drum to prevent further release. With proper handling, our crew successfully and safely removed the harmful chemical and made spill #100 look easy. Thank you to Supervisor Joshua Dotson, tech Malissa Thomas, and tech Jontez White!
