July’s First Call Focus is on our Akron, OH field office. The word “Akron” means “summit” in Greek and Akron is the highest elevation point in Summit County, OH, where it sits as the county seat. Known as the Rubber Capital of the world, Akron was the original home of The B.F. Goodrich Company and continues to be the home of The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
Located on the western edge of the Glaciated Allegheny Plateau, 40 miles south of Cleveland, our Akron field office is within 2 hours of our New Kensington, PA office, our Columbus, OH office and our Toledo, OH office. This coverage area is one of the best in the industry and our Akron office is a big part of that. Akron opened in November of 2022 and has stayed busy as it just performed its 150th project the last week of June!
Kaleb Wilkins is our Akron, OH Area Manager who oversees the day-to-day operations at this field office. Kaleb was hired in March of 2022 as a hazmat technician at our New Kensington, PA office. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Kaleb was an immediate high performer in New Kensington and was offered the Akron Area Manager position in October of 2022. He accepted and moved north where he has built the Akron office in his likeness. “Throughout my career I have felt appreciated, and that makes me work harder. I try to keep that same energy in my shop. As a team, we understand that we are all still learning, so we try to learn together and grow together. I do not feel like I do anything special in the way I manage. I just treat my technicians the way I wish my former employers would have treated me. I take every negative experience I have had with a manager previously and apply it to myself to be a respected leader, not a feared leader, and in that approach, I have some of the best technicians who will literally go to battle for me if I asked.”
